What we did

We landed at Haneda and went straight for a midnight bowl of ramen in Shinjuku. Over ten days we covered Tokyo, a day trip to Nikko, and two nights in Hakone with a view of Fuji from the onsen.

The JR Pass paid for itself by day four. Biggest surprise: how affordable eating out is if you stick to local spots.

Goals of the trip

Eat as much regional ramen as possible, see Mount Fuji at sunrise, and experience a traditional ryokan stay.
